  1. MOON THOUGHTS

    OLDER
    THAN THE MOON
    ARE OUR THOUGHTS
    ABOUT HER:

    SMILING WARMLY
    IN A COLD NIGHT
    WE THOUGHT HER UP.

    AND THE SUN?

    THE SUN NODDED
    BENEVOLENTLY
    AND STREAMED OUT
    IN THE STARS
    THAT WINK AT US
    IN A THOUGHT
    OF THE MOON
  2. THE SNOW GOOSE

    DID THE MOON SHINE,
    ON ITS FEATHERS
    WHEN THE SNOW GOOSE
    GOT LOST?

    DID IT DIE
    ON THE DARK PATH
    AND DISSOLVE,
    OR DID IT
    SIMPLY
    STEP AWAY
    OVER THE MOON?
  3. A SONG

    THE SONG WE SING
    SINGS ITSELF,
    IT SINGS ITSELF
    IN THE SOUND OF
    A SHIGH.

    A VIOLIN SINGS
    ATUNED TO
    ITSELF
    AS ARE WE,
    AS ARE WE

    IT SIGHS A SONG
    OF YOU AND I
    AND FAR AWAY
    AND LONG AGO
    AND COMING BACK,
    SINGING A SONG
    OF LONGING
    FOR A TUNE FROM
    FAR AWAY AND
    HERE
    AND
    THERE AND
    HOME
  4. SON

    WITH BIG, FIRM STEPS
    HE WALKS AND KNOWS
    HIS WORLD

    HE OWNS IT

    HE IS THE OWNER
    OF THE WORLD.
    AND YOU AND I
    RENT
    A ROOM FOR ME,
    A HOUSE FOR YOU,
    A HOVEL FOR HER,
    A SHACK FOR HIM,
    AND A PALACE FOR
    A FEW OTHERS.

    SHOVE THE HOVEL
    IN THE SHACK
    AND THE PALACE
    IN THE MOON,
    THEN THE RAINS WILL COME
    AND THE EARTH WILL BE
    ALL NEW!
  5. LIGHT

    WHEN THE DARK
    GOES MISSING,
    WHEN THE LIGHT
    IS ONLY LIGHT
    I CAN'T SEE
    TOMORROW,
    NOR
    TODAY,
    NOR
    TWO DAYS
    AGO.

    WHERE ARE YOU?
  6. MELODIES

    MELODIES FLOW OVER THE MOON,
    AND WALK OVER MYSTERIES
    OF WORDS AND HARMONIES
    FROM LONG AGO,

    NEVER TO BE CAUGHT
IN THE SOUND OF THE WIND,
    WHICH, CARESSING OUR SKIN,
    DISAPPEARS
    IN A SIGH FROM
    THE END OF THE WORLD
  7. SO MERRY!

    MERRY MAKERS
    MOURN THE MOON
    AS THE MOONWALKERS
    STEP DOWN

    OH MY FRIEND
    LIFE IS A
    DELIGHTFUL ILLUSION

    LET'S GO PLAY
    AND CRY
    AND FIGHT
    AND KISS
    AND SUFFER
    IN BLISS

    OUR MOON IS SUCH A
    DELIGHTFUL ILLUSION!
  8. SIX CROWS      (with a wink to the Dutch)

    IN A BARE FIELD
    SIX CROWS SIT
    IN TWO ROWS
    TO TALK ABOUT
    SAD THINGS.

    ONE CAWS HIS SORROW
    OVER THE SITUATION
    IN THE WORLD OF
    TOMORROW.

    THE SECOND DECLARES
    HE'D JUST AS LIEF
    HAVE ANOTHER GRIEF,

    WHILE, WITHOUT A WORD,
    THE THIRD
    CEASELESSLY CLAWS
    THE SOIL ASUNDER
    FOR SHE YEARNS TO BE
    SIX FEET UNDER.

THE FOURTH GOES THROUGH THE MOTIONS
    OF FEIGHNING MORE CHEERFUL EMOTIONS

    BUT FAILS

    AND SO THE FIFTH
    FILLS HER EYES WITH TEARS,
    ENOUGH FOR THE TWO
    FOLLOWING YEARS,

    AS THE SIXTH GOES
    STARK
    HOPPING
    RAVING
    MAD.

    SO SAD!
